Immigration is an individual matter but integration is a collective matter.

About SCICA

About SCICA

Sport Culture Intégration Canada, known by its acronym SCICA, is a non-profit community organization that assists, guides and accompanies immigrants in their immigration and integration process by offering them various tools in their country of origin and in Canada. SCICA accompanies all persons who wish to immigrate to Canada in the preparation of their immigration project, the knowledge of the steps to take upon arrival, practical life, the health system, education and job search.

Our mission

Our goals

Nos objectifs

a) To alleviate the frustrations and tensions observed among some immigrants by providing them with resources that enable them to be in possession of the knowledge they are expected to know before moving to Canada.

b) Make available to immigrants a list of our integrated diaspora volunteers with similar academic or professional backgrounds and experience.

c) Match the prospective immigrant with an integrated immigrant who has a job in Canada similar to the one they had in their country before moving to Canada. This match allows them to be in contact with people who are familiar with the social, educational and professional realities of Canada and who are willing to share them with them from their country of origin.

d) Deconstruct the preconceived notions that many immigrants have about working, social, economic and religious life in Canada.

e) To provide future immigrants with the various professional and educational steps they can take themselves upon arrival.

f) Organise sports and cultural activities in order to support the actions of the various stakeholders and thus encourage the taking into account of the ethnocultural, linguistic and religious complexity for the growth of the intercultural competences of individuals while promoting the learning of living together in the social, school and professional environment.

g) To raise awareness of the role that the integrated diaspora can play in the integration of future immigrants.

h) To promote solidarity by collaborating with internal and external organisations working in this field

Our History

Our History

Sport Culture Integration Canada (SCICA) was founded on October 11, 2014, thanks to the initiative of Mr. Ange Avang Idiapa, who now holds a Master's degree in International Development from the University of Ottawa. Mr. Idiapa worked in Montreal as an administrative secretary for the Congolese Catholic community in Montreal. Currently, he is the youth leader for the Congolese community in Ottawa and Gatineau. Mr. Idiapa is the secretary and player for Ottawa Bolides Congo, a 5th division club in the Ottawa Carleton Soccer League. He has also attended several voluntary family mediation sessions in the Congolese community. Knowing well the major challenges faced by many immigrants, Mr. Idiapa saw fit to put in place structures that could provide assistance to the community. Mr. Idiapa also decided to gain experience in non-governmental organisations. He did two mandates in Africa as part of the "Québec sans frontières" programme.

Mr. Angel Avang Idiapa

President of Sport Culture Integration Canada (SCICA)

First, in 2017 with Oxfam Quebec, Mr. Idiapa worked for the integration of abandoned children in Benin. Then, he went to Togo as an internship manager with the regional education committee for international development in Lanaudière. Mr. Idiapa worked as a portfolio analyst in Europe for Global Affairs Canada.

All these experiences have allowed Mr. Idiapa to understand the functioning of non-governmental organisations and their contribution to the process of development and socio-economic integration. Mr. Idiapa has acquired the knowledge, skills and abilities to manage a non-profit organisation. He decided to join forces with other community actors to legalise the organisation he had set up to work on anticipating the integration process of immigrants.

Today, Sport Culture Integration Canada presents itself as the only organisation in Canada that acts and connects immigrants in their countries of origin and integrated members of the diaspora with similar experiences. We provide innovative and alternative initiatives that contribute to the overall integration of newcomers.
